Upgrade firmware 1.1.x to current version via series of two SD cards

Note: Before beginning, ensure you have ordered the series of two SD cards from Index Braille or a distributor near you.

Step 1: Upgrading to  the new Linux operation system 

  • Order a series of new SD-cards from Index (SD card marketed “1” and a second with the current firmware version) and give the serial number for the embosser(s) in which will undergo the update. Two new SD-card will be sent to you from Index.

  • Ensure that the embosser is switched off.

  • Insert the new SD-card labeled “1” in the main board of the embosser, then startup the embosser.

  • When the embosser is starting up it will be set as an Index Universal model.

  • Press OK to enter model selection mode

  • Press OK to select your embosser model 

  • The embosser will now start to upgrade. It will beep during the upgrade process and this can take several minutes. The embosser will restart after the upgrade is completed. 

Step 2: Upgrade to the latest firmware and select embosser model

  • Insert the second SD-card containing the current firmware version, save SD card number 1 for later use.

  • Plug in the power cord and the embosser will restart.

  • The embosser will restart as an Index Braille universal model

  • Press OK to open the listing of embosser models.

  • Use the UP or DOWN keys to select the model for your embosser. (EX. Basic-D or Everest-D)

  • Press OK to select your embosser model and the embosser will start a new update sequence. It will beep during the upgrade process and take a couple of minutes.

  • The embosser will restart automatically when the upgrade is done.

Step 3: Giving the embosser the correct serial number via file exchange

  • The serial number will now need to be reset in the embosser. Complete the following steps:
  • Download file ESC_C-SerialNo or from Index Braille download page and save it on the desktop.
  • Open the file in Notepad
  • Change “50000” serial number to the serial number located on the serial label on the embosser.

  • Change the date “2011-08-16” to the date on the serial number label.

  • Save the file.

  • Send the file to the embosser via IB-print

  • The embosser will print two pages. First, is a hammer test page and the second page is an embosser information page.

NOTE: After the above upgrade sequence your V4 embosser may be upgraded to any new firmware versions and revisions. You may also download new speech interface files etc by downloading from the downloads of the Index web page. Use ibprint for transferring files to the embosser. 

  • If the model is an Everest-D you need to calibrate the paper feed. This feature is available in the menu on the front panel of the embosser. MENU/System/ Calibration
