World Book and Copyright Day 2017

Celebrated on 23 April, this year’s World Book and Copyright Day emphasizes on access on books, information and literature.

UNESCO chose Conakry, the capital of Guinea, as 2017 World Book Capital.

One of the achievements for blind and print disabled people, especially in developing countries is the Marrakesh Treaty that will increase access to published works in 2 ways: by enabling ’authorized entities’ such as blind people, organizations and libraries to reproduce works into accessible formats for non-profit distribution, and by permiting authorized entities to share accessible books across borders with other authorized entities.

The World Blind Union calls on all governments to stop denying their blind and print disabled citizens their right to read by ratifying the Marrakesh Treaty urgently.
