Braille Box Improvements - Upgrades-X

We encourage all Braille Boxes produced August 2013 and earlier to upgrade their units for max output and standardized updates. If you have questions, please contact our service department at support@indexbraille.com.

Included in the list of Braille Box upgrades is the production date in which the upgrade was implemented. If the production date of a unit is after a noted date below, the upgrade is already provided for that unit. You may find the production date on the serial label of each printer.

Upgrade parts and files are available free of charge for units manufactured on and before August 2013 regardless of warranty dates. You may visit www.indexbraille.com or order upon request.

  •  2013-08-12 New more stable paper supports to the sheet feeder tray. This will supply a better tolerance between the paper and the guides to prevent askew braille dots. (Kit - Part no. 2503)
  • 2013-04-22 Improvement on vertical and horizontal alignment - [please contact support for this file].
  • 2013-06-24 Firmware 1.5.1
    • For detailed information containing the V4 version history for 1.5.1 history report of firmware 1.5.1.
    • Note: If you are experiencing alignment issues, before you send this file to the embosser, ensure that your Braille Box consists of the PCB driver main board including the implemented alignment sensor, released in production 2013-09-25.
  •  2013-03-20 Firmware 1.4.2 build 60
  • 2012-10-05 New paper release arms with inverted hinges, part no. 2463. To order please Contact us in our service department.
  • 2012-11-28 New Profile Paper Guide, Spare parts [login access required] part no: 2452
    • This aluminum profile has an other form which reduces the risk for paper jams when the paper enters the embossing tower. Without this improved profile, the paper tray may require to be pushed into place for proper paper transport.
  • 2012-10-03 Firmware 1.4.1
  • 2012-09-25 New driver main board with integrated alignment sensor (1362B-5),  part no. 2145.  This sensor includes higher stability than the previous screw-mounted or magnet-mounted separate sensor.
  • 2012-08-30 New Clip-on sealing for the glass door and Braille tray door. From sn:53936, part no: 2453

  •  2012-06-15  Accessories upgrade kit (adjusted with removal of separate alignment sensor removal 2012-09-25)
    • Paper guide module, part no. 2416 (4pcs). The black plates are used to guide Braille documents in a fashionable order and in a correct position in accordance to paper size. This is particularly important when A4 or letter size paper is used.

Plastic grommets (strips), part no. 2491; to eliminate the risk of damages done to the embossing head ribbon cable.

  • Rear stop lever, part no. 2035; the plastic lever used to adjust the rear paper support. This has been re-designed for more durability.

  • 2012-06-04 Magnet mounted Alignment sensor 1362F-2 (Note: No longer available as this sensor is now integrated in the PCB driver main board released 2012-09-25)

With the magnet mounted alignment sensor the mounting was easy and with reduced risk for installation errors.

Please note: All alignment sensor boards should be replaced by the new Braille Box driver main board with integrated alignment sensor. This is available free of charge upon a needed request. Also, the separate alignment sensor mini board must be disconnected and dismounted before replacing the driver main board. To unmount you may follow the mounting instructions in reverse order.

  •  2012-03-22 Screw mounted BB-Alignment-Sensor-PCB-2397. (Note: No longer available as this sensor is now integrated in the PCB driver main board released 2012-09-25)

The Alignment sensor is used to make sure all three embossing heads have the same reference position. In earlier units it may vary and it could create one or two "steps" on the braille line.

  •  2012-02-28 Config sys file with increase torque on the embossing head stepper motor.

With the previous torque level, randomly the embossing head could miss motor steps, consequently causing paper jams and/or irregular braille lines.

  •  2011-07-01 Firmware 1.2.0 and EXT2 format on 2GB SD memory.
